B & P Kay Ltd has been involved in the cut flower business for 23 years.
We pride ourselves on our consistency of quality and all year supply with an emphasis on the customer and the service we provide.
We have been accredited to the Quality Assurance program run by Vegfed.
The business was started by
Bernie and Pat Kay then joined by Brian and Kerry van Tiel (son-in-law and daughter)
in 1993. We employ two teams, one focused on Gerbera and the other on
Iris, Lily and Anthuriums. We are an energetic bunch who see the future of the flower industry as being exciting with huge
We own 3 properties at Ramarama, 30 minutes South of Auckland's CBD and
lease another 8 acres of bare land close by for our Iris production.
Our flowers are marketed in New Zealand through a selection of loyal wholesalers and auctions. We
grow the latest colours and varieties and use the latest growing technology, replicating the tried and proven systems from the world leaders, Holland.
We currently grow in 13340 sqm of heated growing houses. Crops grown indoors are gerbera and lily with 42,000 Anthurium plants currently being grown on, which will start producing from mid to end of 2004.
Our leased land has 1.63 million iris bulbs planted per annum.
Little or no promotion is done on flowers at the moment. Flower consumption in New Zealand is low by comparison with other similar countries and we feel the New Zealand market has a huge potential to grow, all we need is the industry to get behind promotion and we are half way there.
Compliance costs are ever increasing and we need to market our flowers more in an effort to absorb these costs.
